چکیده
Two studies in this issue, Kristariyanto et al. (2015) and Michel et al. (2015), describe innovative ways to produce large quantities of atypical K29 and K33 ubiquitin chains and report structures and mechanisms of chain-specific recognition.

Deciphering Functions of Branched Ubiquitin Chains
The anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome targets proteins for degradation by catalyzing homotypic ubiquitin chains of different linkage types. In this issue of Cell, Meyer and Rape diversify the degradation signals by demonstrating that the APC/C and its cognate E2 conjugating enzymes enhance the rate of substrate degradation by decorating them with branched Lys11 and Lys48 ubiquitin chains.
متن کاملGeneration of free ubiquitin chains is up-regulated in stress and facilitated by the HECT domain ubiquitin ligases UFD4 and HUL5.
Polyubiquitin chains serve a variety of physiological roles. Typically the chains are bound covalently to a protein substrate and in many cases target it for degradation by the 26S proteasome. However, several studies have demonstrated the existence of free polyubiquitin chains which are not linked to a specific substrate. Several physiological functions have been attributed to these chains, am...
متن کاملThe Effect of Different Break Activities on Eye-Hand Coordination in Female Students
People face breaks in their daily tasks that effect on their daily life. The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of different break activities on eye-hand coordination in female students. In the current experimental study conducted with repeated measures design, 36 high school female students with age range 13-15 years old were conveniently selected. In order to evaluate participa...
متن کاملThe triple-A supply chain.
Building a strong supply chain is essential for business success. But when it comes to improving their supply chains, few companies take the right approach. Many businesses work to make their chains faster or more cost-effective, assuming that those steps are the keys to competitive advantage. To the contrary: Supply chains that focus on speed and costs tend to deteriorate over time. The author...
متن کاملUbiquitin binding by a CUE domain regulates ubiquitin chain formation by ERAD E3 ligases.
Ubiquitin-binding domains (UBDs) differentially recognize ubiquitin (ub) modifications. Some of them specifically bind mono-ub, as has been shown for the CUE domain. Interestingly, so far no significant ubiquitin binding has been observed for the CUE domain of yeast Cue1p. Cue1p is receptor and activator of the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme Ubc7p. It integrates Ubc7p into endoplasmic reticulum (...
